Dr. Daniele PRIVITERA

Dr. Daniele Privitera is a Research Scientist (Nursing Science) in the University of Luxembourg’s Department of Life Sciences and Medicine, where he contributes to the Bachelor programme in Anaesthesia and Reanimation.

His research focuses on vascular access safety in acute and critical care, with particular emphasis on short peripheral intravenous catheters, midlines and central venous devices, their complications, and the impact of educational and organisational interventions on clinical outcomes.

He also develops and evaluates non-invasive respiratory support strategies with helmet CPAP in emergency and intensive care settings, combining bench experiments, clinical studies and protocolised nursing assessment in acute respiratory failure, including COVID-19 pneumonia.

He served as an Adjunct Professor in the Degree Program in Critical Care Nursing at the University of Milan-Statale and in the first-level postgraduate course “Positioning and Management of Vascular Access Devices” at the University of Eastern Piedmont in Novara.

Until 2025, he was a Nursing Tutor in the MSc Programme in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan and at the University of Eastern Piedmont in Novara, where he supported students in developing research projects and advancing clinical competencies in emergency and critical care.

In the context of doctoral education, he contributed as a speaker to a Doctoral Seminar for PhD students in Nursing and Public Health Sciences at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

He contributes to public and policy outreach through the activities of Fondazione GIMBE, an independent non-profit foundation that promotes the integration of best scientific evidence into healthcare decisions and monitors the performance of the Italian National Health Service.
 
As a scientific collaborator and faculty member for Fondazione GIMBE, he supports initiatives such as the national campaign #SalviamoSSN and the school-based project “La Salute tiene banco” to strengthen health literacy among citizens and students. (https://www.lasalutetienebanco.it)

In 2025, the OASES research group received the BiUniCrowd First Prize from the University of Milano-Bicocca for a digital platform to support emergency care in underserved areas. He is the only nurse in the research group. (https://oasesresearch.org/who-we-are)

He served as Head of Clinical Research Nurses at the Department of Cardiovascular, Neural and Metabolic Sciences, IRCCS Istituto Auxologico Italiano in Milan (2024–2025), after working as a critical care registered nurse in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at IRCCS Multimedica, Sesto San Giovanni (2023–2024).

From 2014 to 2023, he worked as an emergency nurse at the Emergency Department of ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milan, gaining extensive experience in high-acuity emergency and acute care.

Earlier in his career, he held staff nurse positions in general medicine and intermediate care units at ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo – San Carlo Borromeo Hospital and at ASST Rhodense – Garbagnate Milanese. He also volunteered as a nurse in the mobile clinic (Politruck) of the NGO EMERGENCY.
In addition, he serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Nursing Practice and the European Journal of Medical Research, and as an Editorial Board Member for BMC Emergency Medicine.

He holds a PhD in Nursing Sciences and Public Health from the University of Rome Tor Vergata (2021–2025).

He obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Eastern Piedmont (2021).
His postgraduate education also includes a Master’s Degree in Critical Care Nursing from the University of Milan (2014); advanced courses on PICC and midline implantation and management at the University of Milano-Bicocca (2018); and the “Peerspectives – Peer Review and Biomedical Training Initiative” at the Institute of Public Health, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (2025).

He completed his initial training with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Catania (2011).
