Dear members and friends of the Physics Department:
The Section des Sciences of the Institute Grand-Ducal Section in collaboration with the Department of Physics and Materials Science of the University of Luxembourg warmly invites you to an inspiring public evening talk by Prof. Jan LAGERWALL, University of Luxembourg, on
“Smart materials innovation: where science meets society and industry”.
Abstract: Materials have enormous impact on our lives, at the personal and society scales. Through their importance for markets ranging from construction to personal accessories to medicine, they are critical for industry as well, whether in a role of materials consumer, producer, or both. I will talk about my own group’s efforts in responsive materials innovation, taking on challenges spanning from fundamental physics and chemistry to the multidisciplinary considerations required to translate research into a product and scaling up production in a sustainable and commercially viable way. I will do so in the broader historical context of how numerous scientific discoveries have made revolutionary technologies possible, generally made out of pure curiosity decades before the context of the application even existed.
Following the scientific session, we invite you to engage in a networking cocktail in the Main Hall of the Bâtiment des Sciences. This gathering will be a fantastic opportunity to connect with both the speaker and other colleagues active in material sciences, fostering collaboration and innovation.
Join us on Tuesday 24th of June 2025 at the University of Luxembourg, in Bâtiment des Sciences (Limpertsberg Campus) room BSC003, at 18:30PM.
To ensure smooth organization, please register by June 20th at the latest on the following link .
Best regards,
