His career began at BTIC, the largest tank manufacturer in China, where he spent 16 years specializing in the design and production of various composite high-pressure gas tanks. Later, he became the Chief Engineer at FTXT, a subsidiary of Great Wall Motors, the largest pick-up truck manufacturer in China. where he led the development of Type 4 hydrogen storage tanks for SUVs. Subsequently, he served as the Hydrogen Storage Engineering Leader at Cummins, where he focused on designing and assembling hydrogen storage systems for hydrogen fuel cell buses and heavy-duty trucks, as well as localizing Type 4 hydrogen storage tanks. In February 2025, Yongxing XIAN joined the Paul Wurth Chair for energy process engineering at the University of Luxembourg, contributing to the design and assembly of testing equipment and helping to strengthen partnerships with research colleagues in China.
With over 20 years of experience in high-pressure gas tanks and gas storage systems, Yongxing has developed extensive expertise in the theory of filament winding processes, winding pattern design, and resin system formulation. He is proficient in utilizing winding software such as CADWIND, COPSICAD, and WINDING EXPERT. Additionally, he possesses strong capabilities in composite material and mechanical simulation, with proficiency in finite element analysis software, including ALGOR, ANSYS, and ABAQUS. He has a comprehensive understanding of the working principles and test standards for various components in hydrogen storage systems. Furthermore, he has in-depth knowledge of the production, manufacturing, certification, and regulatory licensing processes for gas cylinders and on-tank valves (OTVs).
