Dear FSTM Community,

First, I would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Markus Schlienz, who sadly passed away this month. Markus was a highly esteemed colleague and a cornerstone of our engineering team. He will be greatly missed.

This month, we celebrated the graduation of 148 Bachelor’s students, 182 Master’s students, and 116 PhD students. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our administrative team for their outstanding organisation of this key event. Among our graduates, I would like to highlight two significant milestones: the first cohort of Cyberus Erasmus-Mundus Cybersecurity Master’s graduates, developed in collaboration and lead by SnT, and the first medical doctor degrees in the General Practice specialisation.

FSTM is proud to announce that the AIFactories project was won by a consortium that includes FSTM, SnT, and the Competence Center, working together to contribute to the future of Europe and Luxembourg. This project unites an extensive ecosystem, including Luxinnovation, LuxProvide, and DLH. Our focus within this initiative will be on life-long learning activities in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Quantum Computing. More information can be found here: AI Factories.

The Dean’s office continues to strengthen its efforts in supporting European and industry-related projects. We are investing in dedicated staff and upskilling our existing personnel to meet future challenges. As we look ahead, 2025 will be a pivotal year for Quantum Computing, with FSTM and SnT joining forces to host a series of exciting events.

Finally, I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and joyful winter break. Together, let us prepare to lead FSTM and the University of Luxembourg into new frontiers of education, research, and outreach in 2025.

Kind regards,
Pascal
