Word of the Dean: New four-year strategic plan

Dear FSTM supporters,

This month marked the kick-off of preparing our new four-year strategic plan during the management team retreat, where the entire team focused on advancing the university’s three core missions: education, research, and outreach.

A significant development is the rise of interdisciplinary centers, which now outnumber the traditional faculties. This reflects the university’s evolving structure and focus on research.

However, education remains a central priority for all members of the team, including the rectorate, IC directors, administrative and finance directors, and deans. New teaching paradigms are being explored, such as offering more interdisciplinary options (major/minor programs), alongside the integration of the University Competence Center to support lifelong learning needs. Our new Academic Vice-Rector plays a key role in ensuring that students remain at the heart of our priorities.

Efforts to strengthen research and education, particularly in healthcare, are being prioritized. The Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine (FSTM) will also contribute significantly to the University strategic focus on digitalization and sustainability.

In terms of outreach, we emphasize the importance of engaging closely with citizens and the Luxembourg economy. Several initiatives, including the creation of a makers’ space for students and entrepreneurs, are currently under discussion.

In addition to launching new and exciting initiatives, we recognize the need to maximize the impact of our existing resources. This may involve some restructuring to ensure efficiency and alignment with our long-term goals.

We are committed to an open and collaborative process, and we welcome your ideas and suggestions. Our research facilitators, the Quality and Education Office, and the Partnerships and Megatrends Office are all actively gathering and organizing your valuable input.

Best regards,

Pascal Bouvry
