Teaching Awards 2024: honouring two mathematicians

Prof. Christophe Ley and Postdoctoral researcher Guendalina Palmirotta from the department of Mathematics received their Teaching Award during the Rentrée Académique which took place on 13 November 2024. The award recognises their excellent teaching, dedication and commitment to their students. Congratulations to both of them!

Christophe Ley

Christophe Ley is an Associate Professor in Mathematics. He also leads the group Modelling, Interdisciplinary Research, Data Science, Applied Mathematics and Statistics within the Department. In addition to his academic role, he is also President of the Luxembourg Statistical Society, President of ECAS (the European organization for Advanced Courses in Statistics), and Leader of the international network S-TRAINING (new data science methods for sports analytics and sports medicine).

Students widely appreciate Prof. Ley for his genuine care and dedication to their success. “He truly cares about every single student in the classroom. I’m very grateful for everything he’s taught me,” says Oliver, a Master’s student in Data Science.

Guendalina Palmirotta

Guendalina Palmirotta is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg. She focuses on solving differential equations on special spaces such as Riemannian manifolds of compact and non-compact types through theoretical and numerical approaches. Her work has applications in physics, particularly in astronomy.

Guendalina values her interactions with students and enjoys helping them overcome challenges. She is highly regarded by her students for her expertise and dedication. “I think that Guenda is a truly brilliant and exemplary teacher and person.” affirms Melissa, a Master’s student in Secondary Education, Mathematics.
