More than 50 science communicators and researchers met on 17 April 2024 to celebrate the release of the book “50 essentials on science communication” and exchange ideas in several discussion rounds.
The release event was moderated by Serge Haan, who is Professor at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) and one of the editors of the book. Together with co-editors Jean-Paul Bertemes, Head of Science and Society at the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), and Dirk Hans, science communicator at scienceRELATIONS, they presented the publication. The book gives a general overview about the field of science communication and helps readers get started.
As the publication is a joint project between the FNR and the University of Luxembourg, the event started with two welcoming speeches by Prof. Simone Niclou, Vice-Rector for Research at the University, and Dr. Andreea Monnat, Acting Secretary General of the FNR. Both emphasized the importance of science communication skills among researchers.
The presentations were followed up by a world café like activity, in which the audience was asked to discuss specific topics in different groups, for instance: Does every scientist need to be trained in science communication? How do you effectively engage your audience? Many continued their conversations in the networking part of the event.
The book was written in collaboration with national and international authors who contributed chapters to the book.
