Sophia University – Top Student Grant

A unique opportunity for outstanding Bachelor and Master students at the University of Luxembourg !

Each year, 12 top-performing students with a strong interest in Japanese culture are selected to participate in an immersive 3-week academic and cultural experience at Sophia University’s Yotsuya Campus in Tokyo. The student must be available during the mobility period, starting end of June.

What the Grant Covers?

The grant fully supports your international mobility by covering: 

– Round-trip flights to Tokyo 
– Accommodation in Japan 
– Registration and programme fees 
– Airport pick-up service in Tokyo 

Not covered: Meals & personal excursions (students should plan their own budget). 

    Application Process

    • The International Relations Office (IRO) informs faculties about the upcoming selection. 
    • Study Programme Directors (SPDs) receive a call for nominations (one student per programme). 
    • Nominations include academic results, current semester, and a short motivation. 
    • Deadline: Last week of February 

    • SPDs submit nominations to the FHSE Quality Office (QO). 
    • The QO prepares files, organizes the internal selection committee, and finalizes candidates. 
    • Each faculty forwards 4 selected students + 1 backup to the IRO. 
    • IRO notifies selected students and explains next steps. 
    • FHSE QO informs respective SPDs/DETs about non-selected students 

    • Selected students submit their official application to Sophia University. 
    • Application deadline: March 6th 2026 

    • Students travel to Tokyo at the end of June. 
    • SPAs verify that travel dates do not conflict with final exams. 
    • Course directors are informed accordingly.
