About

The project “Patient-As-Partner Approach in healthcare” (APPS INTERREG) is a large scale (9 partners from 4 Grande-Région countries BE DE FR LU), multi-million project involving academics and health specialists involved in innovative practices of patients’ empowerment in health care.

The project aims to improve the quality of aftercare and disease prevention by fostering a culture of partnership between patients and health professionals in the Greater Region. The aim of the project is to challenge and promote the Patient-As-Partner Approach by systematically developing solutions that integrate sociocultural aspects, institutions and regulatory bodies at different levels (micro, meso, macro) of the healthcare system.
In concrete terms, the Greater Region (Luxembourg, Belgium, France and Germany) teams carry out scientific research, mobilize patient associations and committees, raise awareness among healthcare professionals and evaluate the place of new technologies in Patient-as-Partner (APPS) practices.

The project produces:
• A definition of operating principles and a conceptual framework of APPS, in the countries of the Greater Region.
• Recommendations to enable the implementation of APPS.
• An analysis of APPS activities as well as existing interventions in the Greater Region.
• A cross-border network of associations and patient committees.
• Innovative solutions, using new technologies (eg e-health, m-health), to facilitate the sustainable development of APPS practices.
• A program of studies and professional trainings to sensitize healthcare professionals to the APPS.

After a 3 years existence and 2 covid-years extension until 2022, the project anticipates a new wave currently under development.
