Analysing the microcosm of societal change

Urban history examines the nature of towns/cities and forms of urbanity from a historical perspective. It also takes an interdisciplinary approach to the process of urbanisation from antiquity to the present day.

About

The city is a microcosm in which economic, political, social and cultural processes of change often begin or intensify. Research into urban history at the Institute of History is therefore always interdisciplinary and focusses on a wide variety of different types of sources.
