We study the so called “Middle Ages”, a formative millennium in the shaping of modern Europe, which gave rise to the social and professional groups that still make up our society today: the peasantry, the bourgeoisie, craftsmen, merchants, churchmen, professional soldiers, lawyers, scholars, and so on.

About

Today, the Middle Ages are studied to understand the origins of the components that make up our society and culture, but also for what they offer as an alternative to our choices of society and culture today. At the Institute of History, we study these two dimensions of the Middle Ages in the area of former Lotharingia and beyond, in the Europe of the Luxembourg dynasty.
