Investing Growth: How Children Develop and Learn

At the Child and Baby Lab, we are dedicated to understanding the intricate processes of child development from infancy through adolescence. Our research addresses pivotal questions that illuminate the factors influencing children’s learning and growth, including:

  • Bilingualism and Cognitive Development: How does speaking multiple languages shape children’s cognitive abilities?
  • Second Language Acquisition: What strategies assist children learning a second language in reading and comprehension?
  • Neurodevelopmental Disorders: What are the early indicators of neurodevelopmental disorders, and how can we effectively support affected children?
  • Socio-emotional development: How do a child’s relationships and social interactions influence their emotional growth and learning outcomes?
  • Mental Health: What effects does early adversity have on children’s mental health?
  • Creativity and Development: How does creativity evolve in children, and how does it influence their cognitive and emotional growth?
  • Mind-Brain Connections: What are the links between mental processes and neurological development, and how do biological mechanisms facilitate learning?

A Nurturing Environment for Young Minds

Nestled within the Maison des Sciences Humaines at Belval Campus, our lab features child-friendly spaces and state-of-the-art testing facilities.

We design our studies to be both enjoyable and enlightening, incorporating interactive games, puzzles, and storytelling. This approach not only captivates children’s interest but also enriches our understanding of their developmental processes.

Collaborative Research

The Child and Baby Lab is home to the Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Development Research Group. We actively collaborate with other research labs within EPSYLON and the Faculty of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences. Through these partnerships, we aim to advance research in child development and share valuable insights across disciplines.
