Lisa Bonfert is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Social Research and Social Interventions (ISI), where she currently works on international migration, social inequalities and transnational family settings. With a background in Southeast Asian Studies, Economics and Development Studies, her research focuses on the experiences and emotions related to mobility and social inequality, belonging and identity (trans-)formation. In her doctoral thesis, she explored subjective evaluations of social positions and social mobility in the context of migration to Germany.
In addition to her doctoral work at Bielefeld University (2019-2023), she was part of the collaborative research project “Migrant organizations and the co-production of social protection” as research associate at the Technical University Dortmund (2021-2023).
She studied Southeast Asian Studies and Management at the HTWG Konstanz, the Prince of Songkla University in Phuket and the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang (BA, 2015), before pursuing her Master’s degree in Sustainable Development at the SOAS, University of London (MSc, 2018).
