The Medialux project stems from the research agreement concluded between the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Ministry of State’s Department of Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy, represented by Elisabeth Margue, Delegate to the Prime Minister, responsible for Media and Connectivity.
This project aims to produce and diffuse quantitative and qualitative information on the Luxembourg media environment and its evolution in order to maintain and develop a diverse and sustainable media landscape in Luxembourg.
Objectives defined by the agreement
The goals of the project are threefold:
- First, to carry out an annual survey containing quantitative and qualitative data on the Luxembourg media landscape, identifying and analysing the actors and media uses in Luxembourg as well as their evolution. The survey will be based on the Media Pluralism Monitor which is coordinated by the Center for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy).
- Second, to carry out specific research in the field of the (digital) media. At regular intervals, the University and the State will discuss potential large-scale research projects that it could be interesting to explore further.
- Third, to organise an annual cycle of public conferences on the media in society to which national and international experts will be invited.
Through these commitments, Medialux will contribute to develop the diffusion of knowledge with regard to the media and professional journalism in a societal context marked by the phenomena of disinformation and misinformation. Finally, the Medialux project aims to deepen the questions related to the legal, political, ethical and sociological effects of digitalisation of information through the Participatory Democracy Platform (PLDP) and the future Luxembourg Centre for Digital Ethics (LCDE).
The project is coordinated by Dr. Raphaël Kies and Dr. Stéphanie Lukasik.
