On January 9, 2018, Evan McDonough successfully defended his Doctoral thesis entitled „Global flows, local conflicts and the challenge of urban governance: managing the urban‑airport interface in London and the South East” (Supervisor: Markus Hesse). Based on case study research on Heathrow and Gatwick airports, he developed a conceptual framework to scrutinize the relational and vertical dimensions of urban governance and regional planning. Members of the jury were Frank Witlox (Ghent), Manuel Appert (Lyon), Geoffrey Caruso, Markus Hesse, and Christian Schulz (Luxembourg).
