Sci2School: bringing you resources to science-up  your teaching

Children are curious and want to explore and discover their environment. They actively participate in their own competence development and learn through communication and co-construction with others.

Following this understanding, our team has developed a digital compendium as part of the Sci2School (Science Teaching to Support Children Learning Science) project that provides various educational resources. These are based on the principle of inquiry-based learning and are designed to be competency-oriented in order to support science lessons in primary schools with context-related resources and didactic impulses.

There are two different types of handouts:

  1. How to… inquiry-based learning: Introduction to the Method with Impulses for Lesson Planning and Practical Implementation
  2. How to… school garden, makerspace and science week: various thematic projects and support for their inquiry-based implementation in your own lessons and at your own school.

The Sci2School (Science Teaching to Support Children Learning Science) project focuses on developing and providing high-quality, research-based resources for science education for Luxembourg primary school teachers.

In response to a nationally identified need for resources and support for science teachers, Sci2School has two key objectives:

  • The development and dissemination of digitally available educational resources for teachers to use in their science teaching, and
  • The development of in-service training for primary school teachers that is adapted to the individual context of each school and focuses on establishing professional learning communities among teachers.

In inquiry-based learning, students are involved in scientific investigations that are guided by their own interests and relate to their daily experiences. Methodologically, the handouts are based on a model that is based on five procedural phases:

  • Engage
  • Explore
  • Explain
  • Elaborate
  • Evaluate
