Studying sensitive topics poses unique challenges for researchers. People may hesitate to participate in such studies because of feelings of shame or discomfort and fear of being judged, labeled, or misunderstood. Even when they do agree to take part, stigma often prevents them from speaking openly. Loneliness is a clear example: it is frequently associated with stereotypes of being socially incompetent, isolated, or pitiable, which makes individuals reluctant to admit feeling lonely. Photo elicitation is a method that uses images as prompts to help participants reflect on and openly discuss sensitive topics.

In this interactive workshop, you will explore strategies for addressing sensitive topics in your research.
