Argyro-Maria SKOURMALLA

Argyro-Maria Skourmalla is a doctoral researcher in Humanities in the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.

Argyro-Maria’s research interest focuses on language use and language education. Argyro-Maria was an active member at the Greek Language and Multilingualism Laboratory at the University of Thessaly where she was involved in research projects and activities regarding language education, especially for minority groups. She remains in close contact with the now members but has turned her focus on her doctoral project about representations of linguistic diversity in teaching and in learning in multilingualism in higher educations. She is interested in subjects that have to do with linguistic diversity and multilingualism in educational contexts, language teaching and learning, and language policies.

Argyro-Maria has presented in various conferences, such as the 4th Conference of Education acrossBorders, the 19th International Conference on Diversity, Organizations, Communities & Nations, the 3rd International Conference of the Journal “Scuola Democratica” and the International Conference on Multilingualism and Multilingual Education. Argyro-Maria has published part of her work in conference proceedings as well as in journals, such as the Canadian Center of Science and Education and has contributed to the collective book “L2 Figurative Language Teaching”.

Before joining the University of Luxembourg as a doctoral researcher, Argyro-Maria worked in the European School Luxembourg II. She has also worked in various research projects about language education for migrants and refugees, such as the MATH.E.ME project. The P.R.E.S.S. project and the Teach4Integration project.

Argyro-Maria completed her bachelor studies in Primary Education at the University of Thessaly, in Volos, Greece. During her bachelor studies, she attended the University of Strasbourg for one semester as part of the ERASMUS project. After that, Argyro-Maria completed two masters programs, one in Applied Linguistics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a second one in Language Education for Refugees and Migrants at the Hellenic Open University. At the same time, Argyro-Maria obtained a diploma in School Psychology and in Special Education.
