Robert A.P. REUTER

Current position

Robert REUTER is an Assistant professor in Educational Technology at the Department of Education and Social Work.

Research

Robert has been studying the more or less strategic uses of digital media and technologies for learning and teaching, including factors that condition in how far and how they are used in various learning and teaching settings. As a cognitive scientist, he is also interested in subjective theories as well as scientific theories of learning, i.e., how we think (intuitively or based on scientific research) that learning works and what that means for teaching. Moreover, he is interested in the socio-cultural changes in learning brought about by the digital revolution, i.e., how the recent changes in media have caused our understanding of learning to change. Teaching

Robert teaches various courses in the Bachelor en Sciences de l’Education (Bachelor Professionnel), in the Bachelor en Formation Pédagogique (Bachelor Professionnel) and in the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences (DSHSS). They are mainly related to Educational Technology, Educational Research, Teaching Practices and Mathematics Education.

Outreach

Robert is regularily interviewed by national radio and TV stations, as well as by national newspapers, when it comes to topics related to “education in the digital age”. He has also been invited by various schools in Luxembourg and by the IFEN to be a keynote speaker and trainer for in-service teachers. Recently, he has contributed to the public debate about the impact of Generative AI tools on the education landscape.

Awards/Distinction

Robert had been awared a research fellowship (aspirant) by the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique Belgique from 1999 to 2003. Since September 2023, he is a “collaborateur à titre honorifique” at the Université de Liège.

Work experience

Before joining the University of Luxembourg, Robert briefly worked as an “assistant pédagogique” at the “Centre de Psychologie et d’Orientation Scolaires” of the “Ministère de l’Education nationale” in Luxembourg. Before that he had been, from January to September 1999, a research assistant at the Cognitive Science Research Unit of the Unversité libre de Bruxelles under the supervision of Prof. Dr Axel CLEEREMANS.

Educational background

Robert completed studies in psychological and educational sciences, as well as in cognitive sciences at the Université libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium. He wrote his PhD thesis on “Direct and Indirect Measures of Learning in Visual Search” under the supervision of Prof. Dr Axel CLEEREMANS.
