Necropolis to Metropolis — The Transition from a Fringe Industry to a Potential New Urban Centrality
Philippe Nathan (1982) is a graduated architect from La Cambre Brussels and founder of ‘2001’, an office developing territories, buildings, spaces and ideas, based in Esch-Alzette.
2001 was involved in the international consultation ‘Luxembourg in Transition’, as well as the ‘Grande Porte des Alpes’ in Lyon, developing a vision of a de-carbonized and resilient region by 2050, and recently won competitions for the masterplan around the former Josy Barthel National Stadium and the redevelopment of the former Hollerich slaughterhouse into a civic center. Most recently, the RE:KHARKIV contribution, aiming at transforming the post-Soviet residential heritage in Ukraine, was awarded an honorable mention.
Alongside these projects, Philippe Nathan has taught at ULB Brussels, ETH Zurich, TU Kaiserslautern and currently at the University of Luxembourg.
