Our research

Using in most cases multi-method comparative approaches, the MExLab studies are designed to investigate the effects of media such as video games and virtual reality on players and their real-life implications. This includes but is not limited to the physiological and psychological effects of engaging with video games, the moral implications of acts in the virtual environment, and the intervention potential of media for various outcomes related to well-being.

Our projects

  • VGESP: Investigating the effects of video games on stress levels and the moderating role of personality factors
  • The Gris Studies: Examining the mood enhancement and mood repair potential of eudaimonic video games.
  • Video Games & Self-Identification: Exploring factors that influence avatar creation and player satisfaction.
  • Video Games & Stereotypes: Analyzing gender stereotypes in virtual environments and their effects on player satisfaction and gaming performance.
  • Gaming Interventions: Investigating the potential of video games and virtual reality for various applications, such as pain perception, mindfulness interventions, and anxiety reduction.
