Social expectations and norms change

Gender studies investigate how human behaviour is expected to conform to models of masculinity and femininity in different social and historical settings.
About
The impact of gendered stereotypes on individual biographies intersects with other forms of discrimination (racialization, religious or cultural stigmatization, agism etc.). The relevance of sex and gender as categories of difference informs many research projects in history. It is asked in particular when examining relations of power and hurdles to political participation, in medieval as well as modern and contemporary times. It also inspires cultural history and is the focus e.g. of MuGi.lu (Music and Gender in Luxembourg).
