Research Group Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Development

Welcome to the Child and Baby Lab!

At the Child and Baby Lab, we explore how children grow and learn from infancy through adolescence. Among the many questions we investigate are:

  • How does speaking multiple languages affect children’s cognitive development?
  • What strategies can make reading and language learning easier for children who are learning a second language?
  • How can we improve the identification of language learning disorders in multilingual children?
  • What are the early markers for neurodevelopmental disorders, and what effective strategies can we use to support children who face these learning challenges?
  • How do a child’s surroundings and relationships impact their learning and growth?
  • What impact does early adversity have on a child’s mental health?
  • How does creativity develop in children, and how does it influence their thinking and emotional growth?
  • What are the connections between the mind and the brain, and how do biological processes support children’s thinking and their learning?

Located in the “Maison des Sciences Humaines” at Belval Campus, our lab features child-friendly spaces and state-of-the-art testing rooms. We design our studies to be both fun and insightful, using interactive games and creative activities to engage children. From solving puzzles and playing computer or language-based games to participating in storytelling, children find these experiences enjoyable, helping us learn more about their developmental processes.

The lab is home to the Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Development Research Group and is a member of the Experimental Psychology Laboratories Network (EPSYLON). We collaborate with other labs within EPSYLON and the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences to advance our research and share insights across disciplines.
