Abstract
The lecture aims at framing the issue of motivation, with specific reference to patterns of action that are oriented at enforcing climate change-sensitive behaviours. In doing that, the lecture outlines first a preliminary dichotomy between insensitiveness and sensitivity vis à vis climate change previsions and evidence. By limiting the validity of the normative proposal to the Western context, I will thus propose a taxonomy of possible motivations that can trigger or limit climate-change sensitive behaviours in accordance with two of the most common normative approaches: the deontological and the consequentialist one. The issue of imitative behaviour will be thus largely explored, in order to: a) verify the possibility of boosting individual/collective and institutional sensitivity towards key previsions of phenomena related to climate change, and b) to strengthen coherent and consequent forms of behaviour. The main aim is to propose a multifaceted model to overcome the motivational gap that limits (to the point of reducing or even blocking) the adoption of climate change-sensitive behaviors at the individual, collective and institutional levels.
