Research interests
My research interests can be broadly defined in four categories. The first concerns the transformation of the public spaces and its impact on (deliberative) democracy. I am particularly interested in measuring the quality of online deliberation in a micro and macro perspective. The second is e-democracy and democratic innovations, such as e-consultations, e-petitions and e-voting. Presently I am responsible of a large network of researchers working one-consultation processes (COST: Constitution-making and deliberative democracy). My third research field concerns the electoral studies and Luxembourgish politics. Since 2004, I collaborate with the Parliament and the Chair in legislative studies for elaborating and analysing the national and European electoral surveys and the European Values Surveys. I have written Luxembourgish-centred chapters in edited comparative books (such as Routledge, Oxford University Press, ECPR press) and journals (EJPR). In relation to the electoral studies, I am particularly interested in the usage and impact of the voting advice applications (VAA). I have introduced in 2009 in Luxembourg the VAA Smartwielen (www.smartwielen.lu) that is since then implemented at each national and European election. Finally, I am also working on questions related to the media landscape in Luxembourg. Each year I take care of the national media pluralism monitor that is part of a European wide project coordinated by the European University Institute in Florence. In all these fields, I am a regular advisor of several institutions and initiatives such as national Parliament, the European court of auditors, or the Bertelsman Stiftung, the Luxemburgish media authority (ALIA), the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
