His research focuses on understanding gene regulation and epigenetic mechanisms that determine cell identity in differentiation and disease in mammalian cells. His team uses in vitro cell culture systems, human cell types derived from induced pluripotent stem cells, and primary cells from human and mouse tissues to apply genome-wide epigenomics approaches. Dr. Sinkkonen has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals (>2500 citations; h-index=21), acquired millions of euros of research funding, and supervised over 20 PhD and Master students.
