Prof Stephan LEYER

Stephan Leyer is full professor in Thermodynamics at the University of Luxembourg. He leads the research team Applied Thermodynamics (ATD) within the Department of Engineering.

The research of Stephan Leyer deals with the modeling of transport phenomena – mass, momentum, and energy – in fluid dynamic systems. Application-oriented research topics cover e.g. the areas:
· Energy System Analysis and Optimization
· Nuclear Technology
· Filtering technology
· Gas Dynamics

· Thermodynamics
· Heat and Mass Transfer

Since 2024: Member of the Scientific and Technical Committee (STC) of EURATOM.

· Since 2015: Professor for Thermodynamics, University of Luxembourg,
· 2013 – 2015: Professor for Thermodynamics and Energy Technology, Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT), Germany,
· 2011 – 2013: Head of Fluid Dynamics Development, Corporate R&D Development Department, AREVA Group, France,
· 2007 – 2010: Boiling Water Reactor Development, AREVA GmbH, Germany,
· 2006 – 2007: Post Doc at the Max-Planck Institute for Plasma- Physics Garching, Germany,
· 2005 – 2006: Project Engineer at Framatome ANP GmbH, Germany.

In 2004, he graduated in Physics with a Ph.D. from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) under the guidance of Professor Elmar Dormann.
