Oliver Kohns is an assistant professor in German and comparative literature.
Research
In his PhD dissertation, Oliver Kohns analyzed the „positive“ notion of madness in the philosophy and literature of romanticism (in texts of Immanuel Kant, E.T.A. Hoffmann, and Thomas Carlyle) („Die Verrücktheit des Sinns“). He joined UL as an „Attract Fellow“, leading the research group „Aesthetical Figurations of the political“, which produced numerous publications. His current research interests are related to the analysis of German literature in the comparative context. He is currently writing a study on the history of the „villain“ from Shakespeare to the super hero movies.
Teaching
Oliver Kohns teaches at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, offering courses on literary history, literary theory, and political theory.
Work experience
Before joining the University of Luxembourg, Oliver Kohns has worked at the universities of Cologne and Regensburg.
Educational background
Oliver Kohns has written his PhD thesis at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, being a scholarship holder of the DFG-Graduiertenkolleg „Zeiterfahrung und ästhetische Wahrnehmung“. He studied German Studies, History, and Sociology at the University of Cologne.
