Dr Veronika Lovrits serves as Ombuds at the University of Luxembourg, reporting to the Board of Governors.
Research
In previous academic positions at the University of Luxembourg and University of Ostrava, she conducted qualitative research of discourse in the fields of critical sociolinguistics and social inclusion, focusing on equity and unequal power relations.
She taught courses on critical metalinguistics, qualitative methodology and research outreach at the Bachelor and Master level. She has achieved the postnominal title of Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in recognition of attainment against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education.
Outreach
She is a Member of the European Network of Ombuds in Higher Education (ENOHE), and a Member of the International Ombuds Association (IOA). She engages in outreach and training to promote ombuds services and healthy conflict management to all campuses of the University of Luxembourg.
Awards/Distinctions
She received the Translating Cultures Prize for the best graduates of the program Master in Learning and Communication in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts at the University of Luxembourg (2019), the Nigel Holden Prize for the Best doctoral paper at the 15th GEM&L International Conference on Management and Languages (2022) and a nomination for the Excellent Thesis Award for an outstanding PhD thesis at the University of Luxembourg (2024).
Work experience
Prior to rejoining Luxembourg academia in 2017, Veronika Lovrits had 15 years of professional experience in legal counselling and conflict management Czech disadvantaged neighbourhoods. She lectured for schools and professionals, participated in local and national policy development, organised workshops, and published in local, national, and international media.
Educational background
Her academic qualifications include a PhD title in linguistics (University of Luxembourg, LU), Juris Doctor in Law and Legal Studies (Masaryk University, CZ), an MA degree in Learning and Communication in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts (University of Luxembourg, LU) and a combined BA degree in Sociology + Social Policy and Social Work (Masaryk University, CZ). She completed Foundations of Organizational Ombuds from the International Ombuds Association (IOA) (2024).
