General Assembly of the Fondation du Mérite Européen (24 June 2024)

On 24 June 2024, the Fondation du Mérite Européen (FME) elected its new President, Viviane Reding, former longstanding Member of the European Parliament and Vice-President of the European Commission. We wish her every success in her new role. Viviane Reding will work alongside Simone Beissel, Vice-President, and Jean-Marie Majerus, Secretary-General, as well as the other members of the Foundation

We would like to pay tribute to the Honorary President of the FME, Jacques Santer – Prime Minister of Luxembourg (1984-1995), President of the European Commission (1995-1999) and President of  the Academy of European Law (1992-2023) – for his tireless commitment and service to Europe over all these years, and we look back fondly on the many events for Europe Direct at the University of Luxembourg in which he and the Foundation participated since 2018.
