On June 11, Dr Elena Danescu, manager of the ED-UNILU and ECI Ambassador, took part in the third ECI Network Meeting.
These meetups are informal, peer-to-peer exchanges, with short updates shared by the Commission and an invitation for those attending to share questions, ideas, etc. The floor is open for questions or ideas that can be shared with other ECI Ambassadors, National Contact Points, and others.
Summary of meet-up (11 June 2025)
1) Initiative updates:
2 initiatives under verification (1 new since last meet up):
- ‘Ban on conversion practices in the European Union’
- Signature collection closed on 17 May with 1.24 million signatures, verification stage to start next week
- Nearly 1 million signatures collected in the final week, thanks to support from influencers and politicians
- ‘My Voice, My Choice’
- Signature collection closed on 24 April with 1.22 million signatures
- 3-month verification phase began on 28 May
1 initiative submitted for Commission examination
- The European Parliament will hold a public hearing on 25 June (to be web streamed and recorded)
- Commission needs to reply by 4 September
2) Communication updates:
- The online collection system for ECIs has been updated to be more user-friendly, secure, and optimised for smartphones; [NB: the number of signatures per country can be found in each initiative’s description webpage, in the form of a table (updated every 10 minutes for online signatures) – but not in their collection webpages]

- European Youth Event (EYE) 2025 will take place on 13-14 June. The ECI Forum will host a workshop, and the European Commission will have a stand at the EYE Village. Some activities will be available online: Take part | European Youth Event | European Parliament

The ECI helps bring causes you care about to the EU level, sparking debates, raising awareness, and triggering policy changes. Once an initiative gathers 1 million verified signatures from at least 7 EU countries, the Commission thoroughly assesses the citizens’ demands and adopts an official reply explaining what it will do; in case it decides that no action is needed, the Commission explains why.
