14th anniversary of the European Citizens’ Initiative

On 1 April, we mark the 14th anniversary of the European Citizens’ Initiative.

Over the past 14 years, citizens across the EU have launched 129 initiatives, bringing forward ideas that matter to them and contributing to discussions at EU level. Topics such as access to drinking water and the protection of pollinators highlight the relevance of citizen-driven engagement.

The ECI provides a unique way for citizens to raise issues, foster dialogue, and connect local concerns with EU policymaking. It is a key channel for participation and engagement across the EU.
