The Gender Equality Office of the University of Luxembourg invites you to a special screening of Breathing Underwater, directed by Eric Lamhène (the film runs for 100 minutes and will be shown in French with English and German subtitles).

The event will take place at the Maison du Savoir. Doors open at 17:30 with complimentary popcorn, and the screening begins at 18:00.

The film team will be present, and the projection will be followed by a discussion with the audience on addressing gender-based violence. The discussion will include a quiz with gift cards to be won (1st prize: €50, 2nd: €30, 3rd: €20) and will conclude with a light reception.

This event, organised as part of the Orange Weeks, in collaboration with the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity and Samsa Film, aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence.

The 25th of November marks the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.

As a sign of solidarity, participants are encouraged to wear a touch of orange.

Synopsis
Breathing Underwater tells the story of Emma, who is whisked away in the dead of night, covered in bruises and unexpectedly pregnant. As she grapples with her pregnancy and her emotional shackles to her husband Marc, Emma rediscovers lost facets of herself through her unlikely camaraderie and strife with the women and children of the shelter.
Individual traumas intertwine and despite their differences, a delicate sisterhood emerges as they push one another to fight for their self-worth and independence.
