Re-enrolment for doctoral candidates

Doctoral Candidates must re-enrol at the University each semester (per Art. 12/37 of the Study Regulations). All doctoral candidates concerned will receive an official re‑enrolment email from phdstudies@uni.lu on their student accounts, including detailed instructions and relevant links from the BED (Bureau des Études Doctorales) team. Failure to re-enrol and pay the fees in a timely manner may entail a termination of the candidate’s status with the UNILU.

To ensure re-enrolment can be validated, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • CET: The Thesis Supervision Committee (CET: comité d’encadrement de thèse) nomination must be submitted within two months of the start of your doctoral studies.
  • DEA: Doctoral Education Agreement (DEA) must be fully completed, reviewed and signed by all required parties and submitted within the first six months of your doctoral studies.
  • CET reports: All requested CET reports must be submitted and approved by CET members and acknowledged by the candidate on the system.
  • Master’s degree from a non‑EU university: A scanned copy of the registration of your degree in the Luxembourg Register of Titles is required (if applicable). If the registration process is still ongoing and was initiated in the last 3 months, please provide proof of payment or confirmation of receipt from the Ministry as evidence. If more than 3 months have passed, please contact the Ministry at registre@mesr.etat.lu, and check the Application for academic recognition of foreign higher education diplomas at Guichet.public.lu.
  • Candidates without a work contract at UniLu/ LIH / LISER / LIST: A valid health insurance certificate must be submitted.
Third‑country nationals must also provide a valid Luxembourg residence permit.
  • Candidates in a co-tutelle (joint supervision): Proof of re‑enrolment at the partner institution is required.

The invoice for re-enrolment fees cannot be sent if the candidate’s file is not up to date.

How to re-enrol

Students must re-enrol via the Admission Portal using the student number they were given when they first enrolled.

Please note that the student ID number is valid for life and is linked to the student’s academic career. If a doctoral candidate changes doctoral programme or has not attended courses at the University of Luxembourg for a given period, they must, without fail, use the student ID number issued upon their first registration.

Below you will find the link to the payment procedure. If you are going to pay physically at the University, please book an appointment on Affluences with the PhD office (not the Appointment Admission Office – SEVE).
