Dr Elena Danescu, manager of the EDC-UNILU and ECI Ambassador, took part in the first ECI Ambassadors meeting for the year.
These meetups are informal, peer-to-peer exchanges, with short updates shared by the Commission and an invitation for those attending to share questions, ideas, etc. The floor is open for questions or ideas that can be shared with other ECI Ambassadors, National Contact Points, and others.
Initiative updates from the Commission
As usual, ECI coordinators presented the latest initiative updates:
- 126 initiatives registered since 2012: 2 new registrations in January 2026
- 14 successful initiatives, 3 of which are under examination by the EC:
- Stop Destroying Videogames – submitted on 26 Jan with 1.29 million signatures. Up next: meeting with EC representatives and public hearing in EP. EC to reply by 27 July
- Ban on conversion practices in the EU – public hearing in EP on 2 March. EC to reply by 18 May
- My Voice, My Choice – EP debated and adopted resolution expressing support on 16-17 Dec. EC to reply by 2 March.
- 1 initiative under verification: Stop Cruelty Stop Slaughter 3 initiatives open for signature – more than 400,000 signatures collected in 2026 so far!
ECI ambassadors were invited to describe the ECI in one word:
3 new ECI Ambassador organisations joined the network between December and January:
- Angela-Chiara Nardi, Politika (nejen) pro mladé – Czechia.Active primarily on Instagram, Politika (nejen) pro mladé is a student-led civic education project, aiming to popularise political knowledge among young people.
- Daniel Weber, Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI) – Germany. Based in Bonn, Germany, GSI is committed to a clear and focused approach to civic education.
- Pietro Galluccio, Associazione InformaGiovani – Italy.Working closely with young people and people with physical disabilities, InformaGiovani promotes social inclusion, civic participation, and engagement through local and international volunteering. In the meeting, they also highlighted the importance of having communication materials and tools that are accessible to everyone – a topic we are keen to explore further!
