On September 15, Dr Elena Danescu, Manager of ED-UNILU took part in an online meet-up of ECI ambassadors.
This online meet-up took place in the context of the International Day of Democracy 2025.
Democracy works best when citizens have a say.
With the European citizens’ initiative, you can invite the European Commission to propose new laws on issues that matter to you. If at least one million people from 7 EU countries sign an initiative, the Commission has to examine it and give an official response.
The ECI helps bring causes you care about to the EU level, sparking debates, raising awareness, and triggering policy changes. Once an initiative gathers 1 million verified signatures from at least 7 EU countries, the Commission thoroughly assesses the citizens’ demands and adopts an official reply explaining what it will do; in case it decides that no action is needed, the Commission explains why.
