In the context of the 2024 edition of the Winter (Online) Lecture Series on Europe, which were run in conjunction with Europe Direct at the University of Luxembourg (ED-UNILU) and several other partners, students of the course “Economic and social history of Europe after 1945: concepts, processes, actors” (MAHEC-63) from the Master in European Contemporary History participated in a research seminar at the European Investment Bank on Monday 17 December. The students were accompanied by François Klein and Elena Danescu, research scientists at C2DH. Students from the Master in European Governance also joined the research seminar.

Chris Knight, editor at the bank, gave a presentation about the institution’s structure and its mission. He explained the decision-making process and presented the bank’s strategy and goals for the coming years. These are directly linked to the priorities set by the European Commission, as EIB is a policy-driven bank. The students were encouraged to ask questions during the research seminar and the speaker used practical examples to illustrate the workings of the bank and how it has become one of the world’s main financers of climate action.
