On 18 June 2021, the European Commission (EC) invites you to learn more about the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), a key instrument of participatory democracy in the European Union (EU), and to discover the inspiring stories of Luxembourg citizens who have launched initiatives to initiate change in society. The EDIC of the University of Luxembourg is a partner of the event.
Join us from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm to discover the unique opportunities that the European Citizens’ Initiative holds for EU citizens. This event will allow you to meet like-minded NGOs, citizens, EC representatives, ECI ambassadors and Luxembourg organisers, and explore ways of influencing policy-making together.
PROGRAMME
The event will start with a panel discussion in which speakers will contextualise and highlight the European Citizens’ Initiative in today’s world where a variety of participatory tools are offered at local, national and European level. An overview of the process will be given, including where and how initiative organisers can get professional and peer support to manage their initiative successfully.
In the second part of the event, organisers of initiatives and an expert from the ECI Forum will share their experiences and give advice on how best to launch an ECI.
The event will conclude with a spotlight on Luxembourg organisers who have launched participatory democracy initiatives in your field of activity. Stay tuned until the end of the event to find out about initiatives in your country and the inspiring stories of your fellow citizens who are driving change in Luxembourg society!

The European Citizens’ Initiative enables citizens from different EU countries to exchange ideas and come together around an issue that is important to them, with the aim of influencing policy-making by offering decision-makers new perspectives and ideas from across the EU.
