Research project PHACS

Are We Home Yet?

On finding home in Luxembourg, voices of migration

Are We Home Yet? is a sub project of PHACS (Public History as a New Citizen Science of the Past). It aims to explore further the relation between past and present, by putting forward the history, the voices and the participation of several migrant/exile communities and their search for home.

In 2024 and 2025, the project will:

  • Put forward voices of Portuguese grandmothers living in Esch sur Alzette, through audiovisual light installations (project Lovó in partnership with the Cultural Biennale of Esch),
  • Plan activities focusing on sound, silence, singing and music as a tool to communicate about history through a series of events (project “Humming Home”).
  • Put forward voices of Syrian refugees living in Esch sur Alzette using creative writing and performance (project “Ya Bayti”).

Are We Home Yet? is an FNR-funded project starting on 1 June 2024 for a duration of 12 months, Additional funding comes from Esch Capitale Culturelle.
