Titaÿna Kauffmann is a PhD student at the C²DH working on «code as a source» supervised by Prof. Valérie Schafer, as part of the “Deep Data Science of Digital History” (D4H) project. This PhD project explores the use of code source as an historical source and notably the need for historicization and contextualization of code source to write a more informed history of the digital.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a master’s degree in Political Science and International History as well as a master’s degree in Digital Humanities and History from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). She wrote two master’s thesis, one on the role of Swiss cultural elites with a focus on a key figure on the Geneva and Swiss cultural sphere at the beginning of the 20th century, Daniel Baud-Bovy and his local, national and transnational grounding. The second one was on the handwritten text recognition (HTR) of the 26,300 pages of the notebooks of Jean-Henri Polier de Vernand, Lieutenant Baillival in Lausanne in the 18th century, and on his impact inside the judicial system of his time.
