About
With the PEARL programme, the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) offers Luxembourg research institutions attractive funding to enable them to draw established and internationally recognised researchers from abroad to Luxembourg. Through the recruitment of outstanding scientists in strategically important areas, the FNR aims to accelerate the development and strengthening of Luxembourg’s national research priorities.
The PayPal-FNR PEARL Chair in Digital Financial Services supports Luxembourg’s ambition to lead in innovative financial solutions. Embedded within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg, Professor Gilbert Fridgen and the FINATRAX team explore the future of these services in a data-driven environment, considering a broad range of angles, from usability, onboarding, and operational efficiency to regulatory supervision.
Areas of expertise include developing new opportunities for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), Digital Identities, and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the private and public sectors, while also understanding financial implications, managing risk, and improving efficiency. Furthermore, the group examines how digital transformation in FinTech and regulatory technology should evolve to create generalisable principles that define “what makes a good design.”
Supported by a six-year funding partnership between PayPal and FNR, the initiative is hosted at SnT.
