The LibreOffice and Open Source Conference 2024 will be held from October 10 to 12 in Belval, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
SnT will actively participate in the event, with several of our experts scheduled to speak about our ongoing free and open-source software (FOSS) activities and open-source research projects. This participation aligns with our commitment to advancing the FOSS community and contributing to discussions on those key topics:
- LibreOffice: The Document Foundation, the organiser of the conference, is the home of LibreOffice the free and open source office suite used by more than 200 million people around the world. During the 3 days conference many speakers from all over the world will cover many topics including implementations in private/public/education sectors, development, integration, translation, documentation. There will also be several workshops for those that would like to have hands-on development training.
- Open Source: The conference will highlight the broader FOSS ecosystem, inviting local and global communities to showcase the digital tools they develop. Topics will cover project financing, software security, the impacts of the Cyber Resilience Act on open-source projects, and the role of open-source programme offices (OSPOs) in fostering the adoption of open-source software.
- Digital Sovereignty: Sessions will address the need for technological autonomy and data sovereignty, focusing on the challenges posed by compliance issues, unsustainable costs, and platform dependency. Discussions will emphasise planning for resilience and innovation.
- Interoperability: The importance of data and application interoperability will be a key theme. The conference will celebrate open-source projects that drive and promote standards, enabling application integration and data exchange without proprietary barriers.
- EdTech: LibreOffice’s role as an educational tool will be showcased, emphasising its use in teaching contributions to large projects. The conference aims to unite local and international EdTech organisations passionate about open-source tools, preparing students to be future technology creators.
