    Kick off: Carlo Duprel

Head of SnT Technology Transfer office

Carlo Duprel, Head of SnT Technology Transfer Office

Carlo Duprel holds a PhD in Physics, from RWTH Aachen (Germany). He worked for more than 13 years for the National Research Fund in Luxembourg where he was responsible for Programme Development and International Relations. Then he served Deloitte Luxembourg as Director in the Advisory & Consulting Group. He held several functions from this position, such as leading the FinTech activity and managing the BOOST programme providing professional services to startups. Furthermore, he led the Policy team specialised on providing policy advice to European institutions, agencies and bodies, as well as the Luxembourg Government.

    Opening address: Jens Kreisel

    Rector, University of Luxembourg

Jens Kreisel, Rector, University of Luxembourg

Jens Kreisel is the Rector of the University of Luxembourg (UL) since 2023, after being its Vice-Rector for Research in 2018-2022. He strongly advocates interdisciplinary approaches to address challenges such as digital transformation, health, or sustainable development. Before joining UL, he has been Director at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, Deputy Vice-President of the Grenoble Institute of Technology and Director of Research at the CNRS Grenoble. A Professor of Physics and Materials Science, he focuses on how physical properties interact and how this drives advanced technologies.

Building trust in AI: Prof. Dr. Yves Le Traon

    Director of SnT

Prof. Dr. Yves Le Traon, Director of SnT

Prof. Dr. Yves Le Traon joined SnT as a professor in 2009. He co-founded DataThings, a successful spin-off from the University of Luxembourg. The company offers advanced AI software for scalable decision-making in real-time. Le Traon started in France. He got his engineering degree and PhD in Computer Science from the Institut National Polytechnique in Grenoble in 1997. He was an associate professor at the University of Rennes. Then, he became an expert at France Télécom R&D. Later, he returned to research as a full professor at Telecom Bretagne. There, he pioneered software testing techniques to find security flaws.

    Flashtalks

5 speakers present their research in dynamic 5 minute talks

Muriel-Larissa Frank, Post-doctoral Researcher at the Digital Financial Services and Cross-Organisational Digital Transformations (FINATRAX) Research Group

    Muriel-Larissa Frank

After earning her doctorate in Information Systems from Goethe University Frankfurt, Muriel-Larissa joined SnT to further investigate the human factor in cybersecurity. Her research explores the cognitive biases that make people susceptible to phishing and other forms of online fraud. It also uncovers the psychological roots of resistance to emerging technologies. Her goal is to transform human vulnerabilities, both subtle and profound, into insights that pave the way for a more resilient, human-centred digital future.

Sune Nielsen, Post-doctoral Researcher at the Parallel Computing and Optimisation (PCOG) Research Group

    Sune-Steinbjorn Nielsen

After earning his degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Denmark’s Technical University, Sune S. Nielsen spent eight years as a software engineer before pursuing a doctorate at SnT. His research focuses on swarm intelligence — teaching autonomous systems like drones to coordinate and make decisions collectively. Following positions at LIST and EBCC/Volvo Buses, he returned to SnT to advance research in multi-agent systems, exploring how drone groups can operate together efficiently in complex environments.

Lina Amaya, Doctoral Researcher in the Space Robotics (SpaceR) Research Group

    Lina Amaya

After studying Electronics Engineering at the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, Lina Maria Amaya completed the Interdisciplinary Space Master at the University of Luxembourg. She joined SnT in November 2023 as a Doctoral Researcher. Her research focuses on developing real-time vision-guided control for on-orbit servicing operations. Supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund and conducted in collaboration with Redwire Space Europe, her work enables robots to perform complex tasks independently, critical for sustainable space operations.

Marcello Ceci, Research Scientist in the Security, Validation and Verification (SVV) Research Group

    Marcello Ceci

Trained in Law at the University of Pavia and holding a doctorate in Legal Informatics from the University of Bologna, Marcello Ceci has spent over fifteen years exploring how legal knowledge can be formalised and reasoned with computationally. His research examines the AI alignment problem through the lens of legal theory and moral philosophy, investigating how artificial agents can integrate coherent normative principles. His goal is to ensure AI systems behave in ways that align with established legal and ethical frameworks.

Mats Brorsson, Research scientist Services and Data Management (SEDAN) group

    Mats Brorsson

After earning his doctorate in Computer Architecture from Lund University, Mats Brorsson built a career focused on making computers work together more efficiently. As Professor of Computer Architecture at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, he co-founded the world’s first OpenMP workshop, helping to establish standards for parallel programming. At SnT, he investigates AI infrastructure deployment and co-founded Infratailors, an SnT spin-off that helps companies build, launch, and monitor AI systems in production.
