Christian’s research broadly focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation management. In entrepreneurship, he primarily explores the financing, growth, success, and failure of new ventures and entrepreneurs. Other topics of interest include the intersection of entrepreneurship with psychology, AI, and sustainability. His innovation research focuses on intellectual property rights (e.g., patents and trademarks), innovation strategy, and sustainable innovation.
Christian has published over 55 peer-reviewed articles, some of which have appeared in premier journals in entrepreneurship and innovation research (e.g., Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Research Policy). His research has also received several awards and international press coverage. Additionally, he regularly participates in leading international conferences and collaborates with researchers worldwide.
He currently serves as an editor for Small Business Economics in the area of entrepreneurial finance and is a member of the editorial (review) boards for Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Journal of Business Venturing Insights.
