On Wednesday, 6 May 2026 at 19.00, the Pierre Werner Institute invites the public to Science in the Stress Test – AI, Democracy and Populism, an evening of presentation and discussion at Neimënster. Taking place in German and with free admission, the event will look at how the growing pressures on science, universities, and democratic institutions in an era shaped by artificial intelligence, digital transformation and political polarisation.

The evening will begin with an introductory presentation by the head of ULIDE, Prof. Dr. Georg Mein, based on his book “Das Prinzip Universität: Warum Demokratie Wissenschaft braucht”, followed by a conversation with Prof. Dr. Rolf Tarrach, moderated by Dr. Isabell Eva Baumann. Together, they will discuss the role of science in democratic societies, the challenges posed by populism and misinformation, and the responsibility of universities in defending critical thinking and evidence-based public debate. The discussion will also address how emerging technologies and changing media environments are reshaping the relationship between knowledge, politics, and the public sphere.
