Welcome to the second event of the ULIDE Connect Series on Digital Governance, Industry, and Society!
FORMAT: Panel discussion with audience participation
AI applications are rapidly proliferating, used by businesses, governments, and citizens worldwide. AI is increasingly embedded in globally used services and products, often transcending cultural, national, and jurisdictional boundaries. However, AI systems—such as General Purpose AI or specialized applications—now raise many critical questions when deployed across diverse global contexts, including cultural and socio-economic bias, infrastructural resilience, environmental sustainability, legal and human rights compliance, and more. Over the past decade, discussions on AI governance have evolved in response to these challenges, with formal international efforts gaining momentum in the last 5–7 years. While there is a continuing discussion of the need for global alignment, approaches remain fragmented due to diverse regulatory, cultural, geopolitical, and infrastructural contexts. This event aims to assess the current state of AI governance and revisit the importance of global alignment in a shifting geopolitical landscape and amid the rapid evolution of AI technology.
