On 22 February, we were happy to welcome Prof. Mariapia Mendola from Università di Milano Bicocca.

In the framework of our lecture series about Cross-Border Labor Mobility, Prof. Mendola gave a detailed lecture about “Immigration Attitudes, Intergroup contact and perspective-taking”.

The doctoral lecture delivered by Prof. Mariapia Mendola delved into immigration attitudes, intergroup contact, and perspective-taking, particularly emphasizing the repercussions of backlash in Italy. It analysed factors contributing to political opposition against refugees, assessed alternative resettlement policies, and explored a randomised intervention in Italian high schools aimed at altering attitudes towards immigrants. The discussed paper underscored the intervention’s positive outcomes in diminishing discrimination and fostering more positive attitudes, especially among students with diverse exposures.

This lecture series is organised by Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) & University of Luxembourg, in the framework of the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR), Luxembourg funded project: ACROSS.

Next lecture will feature Prof. Joan Llull, Barcelona School of Economics on 21 March about “Dynamic Labor Market Equilibrium Models of Immigration
