On January 18th, we were happy to welcome Prof. Anna Maria Mayda from Georgetown University, Washington.
In the framework of our lecture series about Cross-Border Labor Mobility, Prof. Mayda gave a detailed lecture about “Fiscal Impact of Immigration: Empirical Evidence at the local level”.
Prof. Anna Maria Mayda’s address provided a comprehensive analysis of the fiscal impact of immigration at the local level. The lecture challenged the prevailing literature dominated by labor market discussions and emphasized the often-overlooked fiscal effects. It underscored the significance of heterogeneity across skill levels, illustrating that the provision of public goods decreases with a higher share of low-skilled immigrants and increases with high-skilled immigrants. Detailed discussions on evidence from two studies, one for the US and one for Italy, brought insights into the main drivers of these effects.
This lecture series is organized by Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) & University of Luxembourg, in the framework of the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR), Luxembourg funded project: #ACROSS.
Next lecture will feature Prof. Mariapia Mendola from @Università di Milano Bicocca on February 22nd about “Immigration Attitudes, Intergroup Contact and Perspective-taking” Registration is free but mandatory by email to: noemie.courtois@uni.lu
