Our Doctoral programme is designed to provide you with the comprehensive skills necessary to make a significant contribution to the social sciences at large and become scientific leaders in your field of choice. From a synergetic, international, and interdisciplinary perspective, we provide wide-ranging expertise in complementary disciplines such as geography, political sciences, sociology, urban planning, among others.
To achieve our goals, our program offers a variety of training opportunities, including:
Colloquia offering solid theoretical disciplinary foundations focusing on current developments.
Topic-oriented courses highlighting the discoveries of both junior and senior researchers.
Methodological advances that cover a range of tools, including STATA, R, Maxqda, Nvivo, and Artificial Intelligence coding, along with lexicometry and mixed method approaches.
Transferable skills that focus on research ethics, pedagogy, and effective scientific presentations.

Prerequisites
Language: Candidates applying to any programme at the Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Luxembourg will be required to demonstrate the following Language skills:
• English language skills: as a minimum B2 level of the CEFR.
• Language used for thesis: as a minimum C1 level of the CEFR.
• A Master’s degree in a sub-discipline of the social sciences or in disciplinary/interdisciplinary programmes with the social sciences, or an equivalent degree (level 7).
• For a doctorate in ‘Architecture’, a Master’s degree in architecture awarded by the University of Luxembourg, or a Master’s degree (level 7) with the qualifications required for admission to the profession of Architect (Section 8 of the Law of 28 October 2016 on the recognition of professional qualifications), or equivalent (level 7).

We recommend you to contact potential thesis supervisors by email to discuss your areas of general research interest and specific ideas for a thesis topic in Social Sciences.
You will need to send a description of the research project and your CV as well as a motivation letter. Your research project should be as comprehensive as possible.
