On Saturday, 21 March, Georg Mein, director of the University of Luxembourg Institute for Digital Ethics (ULIDE), was part of the panel discussion “How Dictatorships Work and How Science and Business can Contribute to Strengthening Democracy,” organised as part of the Leipziger Buchmesse. The event examined the mechanisms through which authoritarian systems emerge and persist, and the role democratic institutions must play in resisting them, under the following description: “The psychiatrist and systems theorist Fritz B. Simon, the literary and cultural scholar Georg Mein (University of Luxembourg), and the psychologist and economist Roland Geschill talk about the many current threats to our social order and the question of how science and the economy contribute to strengthening democracy.”

Moderated by Andreas Kynast, the event drew a full audience and fostered an engaging discussion, reflecting the urgency of the topic and the relevance of interdisciplinary perspectives in addressing it.
